Compass provides an integrated approach to career and college advising.

At Compass, our goal is to help navigate students through the complex college decision and application process.  With our integrated approach, we explore career options with students so that we can better identify colleges that meet their needs.  We also know that there is more to life than just academia.  We help students find an environment in which they will thrive and enjoy all aspects of their college experience; one in which they have an increased chance for success and graduation.  Paying for college is a significant investment and we help ensure that this investment is a wise one.

Compass also helps identify potential scholarship and financial aid opportunities.  We simplify the search process and ensure that filing deadlines are not missed.  Studies show that many times students lose out on thousands of dollars of aid simply because the application process is a daunting one.  Compass' goal is to ensure that education is within the reach of all who desire it.

A study done by an after-school program called Kids First in Oakland, California, reveals that kids often do not go on to college simply because they do not have anyone to help guide them through the system.

California has the worst counselor to student ratio in the nation.  School counseling associations suggest 1 counselor for every 250 students or less in order to be effective.  In California, on average, there are more than 500 students per counselor.  Many schools don't have a college counselor at all.  Often, the counselors that high schools do have spend their time helping students solve problems and complete graduation requirements.  When it comes to college counseling, there just isn't enough time.  Students become lost and discouraged.  Furthermore, for students that  do begin a 4-year college, only 53% graduate within 6 years.
